How this check works
The extension applies to category 1–4 unauthorised works completed before 28 July 2011.
Use the category assigned by an engineer. This tool does not classify building work or determine whether a property meets every legal condition.
Select whether the work was completed before 28 July 2011 and the category your engineer recorded.
For work completed before that date and assigned to category 1–4, the general filing deadline is 31 March 2028.
An engineer must check the category, property location and statutory exclusions. This tool does not calculate a fine.
