Gift tax
Tax on gifts of property or money between living people, based on the value and the relationship between giver and receiver.
Gift tax applies when someone transfers property to another person without payment. As with inheritance, there are tax-free limits and rates by degree of kinship.
Gifts of property to a parent or child often have special rules. Check them before you sign.
