PEI (driver certificate of professional competence)

In short

The certificate professional truck and bus drivers need on top of their driving licence.

The PEI shows that a professional driver has the training required to carry passengers or goods. It is separate from the driving licence.

Example: anyone who got a bus licence (D1, D1+E, D, D+E) on or after 10 September 2008 also needs a passenger-transport PEI to work as a driver. For trucks (C1, C1+E, C, C+E) the same applies from 10 September 2009, through initial training.

Drivers who already hold a licence do periodic theory training without exams, at bodies such as the KETHEYO training centres.
