Up to €16,000 of spending cuts income tax over five years, at most €3,200 a year. See what counts and what is lost.
The deduction covers works and materials with an invoice on a home you use or out.
Eligible spending is capped at €16,000 and split into five equal parts, so at most €3,200 a year.
Materials count only up to one third of the total: the tool therefore accepts materials up to half the works and tells you when it capped them.
The deduction cannot exceed the tax you owe. Anything above it is not carried forward, which is why the tool shows the amount lost.
Works of €8,000 and materials of €3,000: materials are allowed up to €4,000, so all of them count. Eligible spending €11,000, deduction €2,200 a year. With €1,500 of tax a year you use €1,500 and lose €700 each year.
The ΔΕΘ bill extends the to spending up to 31 Dec 2027. Until it passes, treat it as announced.
The deduction is limited to that year's tax and the rest is lost; it is not carried forward.
